DURANGO WORKFORCE CENTER TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO
WORKERS IN AFTERMATH OF MAIN STREET FIRES

March 4 workshop is a service of the Department of Labor and Employment

(DENVER) – The Durango Workforce Center will be providing an assistance workshop to employees of Seasons Rotisserie and Grill, Le Rendezvous Swiss Bakery and Half-Price Tees whose jobs were impacted by the fires in the 700 block of Main Avenue.  If you are an employee of one of those businesses, please make plans to attend this free event:

Assistance Workshop

 When:  Tuesday, March 4
Time:  9 AM to 11 AM
Location:  The Durango Workforce Center, 331 South Camino Del Rio, #3

This special workshop is designed to help workers deal with the emotional and financial effects of the restaurant and store closures due to the fire.  Even the temporary loss of a job brings fear, uncertainty and doubt about the future.  This workshop, which will be held at the Durango Workforce Center, is designed to provide workers with important information to help them get back on their feet with a plan of action including career guidance.

Perhaps the most immediate thing workers need to understand is that they may be eligible for unemployment benefits.  Workers who are losing income as a result of the fire should file a claim with the Unemployment Insurance Program of the Department of Labor and Employment.  That can be done online at http://www.coworkforce.com/uiic/ or by phone by calling 1-800-388-5515.

The March 4 workshop will provide information on filing a claim and time will also be devoted to discussing how to manage finances while awaiting the outcome of the closures.  Representatives from the Workforce Center will also talk about the resources and services they make available.

“It’s important for workers to know that the support doesn’t end when the workshop wraps up,” stresses Chloe Wiebe of the Durango Workforce Center.  “Workers will learn about ongoing free services that will be available to them at the Workforce Center.  For workers who are interested in finding new employment, Employment Specialists can provide career counseling, job search assistance, résumé preparation assistance, information on the local job market and more.”

Please contact the Durango Workforce Center at 970-247-0308 by close of business on March 3 to reserve space at the March 4 workshop.  If necessary, the Workforce Center will schedule a second workshop in order to accommodate everyone interested in attending.
