What is American Recovery and Reinvestment Act?
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
is an economic Recovery package signed into law by President Barack Obama on
February 19, 2009. The purpose of ARRA is to stimulate the
U.S. economy in the wake of the economic downturn. The measures are
nominally worth $787 billion. The Act includes federal tax relief, expansion
of unemployment benefits and other social welfare provisions, and domestic
spending in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, including the energy
sector.
- What this means for Colorado:
Colorado is expected to receive more than $7 billion in funding for
benefits and services and tax relief.
- What this means for the Colorado Department
of Labor and Employment:
The Recovery Act provides a wide range of benefits and services for
people who lose jobs or need more training or support services related
to re-entering the workforce. The Recovery Act also provides funding to
the department to clean the environmental contamination caused by
leaking underground petroleum storage tanks and create jobs.
