American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act (ARRA) Leaking
Underground Storage Tank
Nationwide, the ARRA provides the Environmental Protection Agency with
$190,700,000 for environmental cleanups of underground petroleum storage
tanks. On April 8, 2009, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment,
Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS) was notified it would receive $2,540,000
to perform assessments and remediation at sites where tank owners are
unknown, unwilling or unable to perform the work or in emergency
situations. Currently, the Division of Oil and Public Safety has 30 sites in
the Leaking Underground Storage Tank program that need further investigation
or active remediation. These sites are currently inactive due to lack of
funding. OPS plans to resume investigation and remediation of these sites
once the ARRA Leaking Underground Storage Tank grant is awarded.
