Employment in the Agriculture industry seasonally declined dropping 2949 employees at a rate of -13.3%. The rate of decline is consistent with first quarter of other years and due to the cooler weather. Agriculture Services (07) showed the greatest decrease in employment down 1979. Slowing is the result of less activity in lawn mowing and fertilizer companies. Agri Prod-Crops (01) lost 899 employees. Seasonal declines were strongest in Vegetables & Melons (018) down better than 600 employees and Field Crops Except Cash Grains (013), which contains potato farms, down about 450. Agri Prod-Livestock (02) dropped 82 employees. Losses were mainly the result of labor fluctuations in Livestock Except Dairy & Poultry (021).

With average quarterly employment at 19,198 the industry is up 6.7% over a year ago having added 1202 employees. Agriculture Services (07) incurred the largest share of the increase up 717 employees. Increased demand for companies providing lawn moving and fertilizing service generated most of the growth. Agri Prod-Crops (01), which contains nurseries and greenhouses added 347 employees. This growth can be attributed to increased demand as well as unseasonably warm weather which caused a few businesses to staff earlier than usual.
