QUARTERLY

Government employment declined 0.6% losing 1755 employees. Federal government dropped 1234 employees. Losses were seasonal and found in Forest Service and Soil Conservation. Losses also occurred in the Post Office where extra help hired for Christmas were let go. State government dropped 350 employees. Losses were seasonal and occurred mainly in Educational Services (82). Local government declined by 172 employees. Executive, Legislative & General Government (91) incurred the largest loss. Some extra hiring in November for elections along with seasonal program slowing this quarter created the employment drop.


ANNUAL

Government employment grew 1.2% over a year ago adding 3433 employees. Local government added 5072 employees. Growth occurred primarily in Executive, Legislative & General Government (91) and Educational Services (82). State government added 1017 employees with the bulk of new employment happening in Educational Services. Federal government employment declined. The loss of 2657 employees can be attributed to the closing of Lowry AFB and layoffs at Resolution Trust Corp.
