Manufacturing employment fell from last quarter by 503 employees or 0.3%. Food Products (20) registered the largest sector decrease down 968 employees. Within Food Products, Sugar & Confectionery Products (206) had the largest decline dropping 447 employees. Losses were seasonal and can be attributed to the end of the sugar beet processing cycle and decreased production following heavy Christmas candy sales. Small cutbacks occurred in a number of firms in Commercial Printing (275). Except for Electrical Machinery (36) and Rubber Misc-Plastic (30) most sector gains were fairly small. Electrical Machinery gained 701 employees with most of its gain centered in Electronic Components & Accessories (367). Rubber Misc-Plastic added 209 due to SIC changes and expansions.
