QUARTERLY

As seasonally anticipated, employment in the Services industry rose. Employment is up 7536 employees or 1.5% over last quarter. Peak season staffing at ski resorts caused much of the addition of 4883 employees to Amusement & Recreation (79). Hotels & Lodging incurred the second largest quarterly increase rising 1512 employees. Growth here was also tied to the ski industry. Seasonal increases for tax preparation services added 1353 employees to Personal Services (72). Business Services (73) suffered the largest decline. Employment dropped 1623. Subsector activity was mixed with temporary help declining by 3603 employees and increases in all other categories. Computer Programming, Data Processing & Other Computer Related Services (737) added 966 employees due to growth and SIC changes in the subsector covering about 500. Business Services (738) reported a gain of 453 after adding about 1000 from SIC changes out of TCPU.


ANNUAL

Services added 23,344 employees over a year ago, up 4.7%. In absolute numbers this industry continues to add more jobs than any other. Business Services (73), up 11,382 employees, is the largest growing sector of Services adding almost half of the industry gain over the year. Computer Programming, Data Processing & Other Computer Related Services (737), up 4780 employees, was the largest increasing component of Business Services followed by Misc Business Services (738), up 3741, which contains telemarketing. Health Services (80) incurred the second largest industry gain adding 3009 employees. Subsector growth was strongest in Offices & Clinics of Doctors of Medicine (801) and Home Health Care Services (808). The only declining sector was Legal Services (81) down 195 employees. Cutbacks occurring this quarter in Denver County accounted for most of the reduction.

1995 SIC CHANGES

Services gained approximately 2745 employees and $16,635,159 in quarterly payroll due to reclassification.
