QUARTERLY

Employment in TCPU rose slightly up 0.6% adding 695 employees. Small industry gains obfuscate sector activity. Due to SIC reclassification a number of delivery firms with air courier services have been moved from Trucking-Warehousing (42) to Air Transportation (45). As a result, Trucking-Warehousing dropped 5597 employees and Air Transportation rose 5590. Local Transportation (41) added 567 employees. Increases were seasonal and tied to demand for transportation to ski areas. Minor gains resulted from service expansion to casino areas. Communication (48) increased 250 employees. Cable & Other Pay Television Services (484) reflected the largest gain up 532. About 1000 employees were reclassified out of Telephone Communication (481) and into telemarketing. Increases in the subsector, however, offset most of the losses leaving the sector down 62.


ANNUAL

TCPU up 8.2% over last year added 4341 employees. Sector activity was mixed. Air Transportation (45) increased 6786 employees. SIC changes covering air courier services moved about 5500 from Trucking-Warehousing (42) into Air Transportation. The balance of the gain resulted from airlines expansion at Denver International Airport and the Colorado Springs airport. Trucking-Warehousing dropped 3387 employees. Expansions throughout the year offset some of the SIC losses occurring this quarter. Communication (48) grew by 1726 employees. Yearlong gains in Cable & Other Pay Television Services (484) accounted for most of the growth. Electric-Gas-Sanitation Services (49) dropped 1688 employees. Layoffs mid-year purged many employees from the Sanitation (495) subsector.


1995 SIC CHANGES

Due to reclassification this industry lost approximately 743 employees and $2,154,405 in quarterly payroll.
