Government employment grew 1.9% adding 5656 employees. Local government added the largest number of employees up 4170. For the most part growth was seasonal and will ebb at the end of next quarter. Staff additions for summer projects and programs in Executive, Legislative & General Government (91) along with increases in Amusement & Recreation (79) created the majority of the increase. Federal government added 741 employees. The Forest Service experienced seasonal increases, however most of the increase in employment was generated from the addition of about 700 employees previously thought to have been a part of the Lowry Base closure. These 700 employees were not, but should have been, included in Federal government employment for both fourth quarter 1994 and first quarter 1995. Federal employment gains were offset by layoffs of almost 200 at the Resolution Trust Corp.
State government employment added 736 since last quarter.
Growth was primarily seasonal and the result of staffing at state parks and recreation areas.
