ALL INDUSTRIES

Employment change from last quarter+ 2.0
Employment change from year ago+ 4.4
Wage change from year ago+ 7.4

Colorado employment at 1,804,435 is up 75,640 over a year ago and 34,665 over last quarter. Services and Retail continue to show the highest annual growth each adding around 25,000 employees. High demand for worker outplacement and a healthy consumer outlook contributed to the growth. Annually, Mining continues to show the weakest activity due to reduced gas and oil drilling. Overall, the annual employment increase is down from previous quarters. Slowed growth and abnormal seasonal changes were apparent in Services, Construction and Manufacturing.

Factors affecting Colorado’s employment this quarter were the beginning of the growing season, the beginning of the tourist season, the end of the skiing season, cessation of school for the summer and inclement spring weather. Quarterly, Agriculture and Construction incurred the largest increases. Mining was the only industry to decline.
