TCPU experienced minimal gains over last quarter growing 1.3% and adding 1430 employees. Communications (48) reflected the largest increase adding slightly better than half of the industry’s growth up 747 employees. This sector experienced cutbacks of about 500 in Telegraph & Other Message Communications (482) and expansions of about 700 in Telephone Communications (481) and 375 in Cable & Other Pay Television Services (484). Seasonal increases added 495 employees to Trucking-Warehousing (42). Air Transportation (45) added 443 employees. Expansions at the Colorado Springs airport and subsequent carrier expansions contributed to some of the quarterly growth in this sector. Local Transportation (42) seasonally dropped 251 employees. Losses are typical following the end of the ski season. Slowdowns in remediation projects caused most of the loss in Electric-Gas-Sanitation Services (49), down 137 employees.
ANNUAL
TCPU employment remains substantially higher than a year ago up 9.7% and 9882 employees. Electric-Gas-Sanitary Services (49) added 4914 employees due to SIC changes into the sector of about 6000 in January. Communication (48) added 4068 employees. Yearlong expansions in Telephone Communications (481) and Cable & Other Pay Television Services (484) accounted for most of the increase. Trucking-Warehousing (42) added 1867 employees with growth the result of increased business. Air Transportation (45) dropped 1556 employees. Cutbacks in service and layoffs by a large carrier caused decreases in the sector.
