QUARTERLY

Second quarter brought improved weather and with it increased construction activity, planting and growing, the end of the ski season, summer school break and the beginning of the tourist season. Quarterly, Construction reported the largest gain adding 11,110 employees. In terms of percentages Agriculture reflected the largest change up 37.6% but adding only 7502 employees. TCPU was flat this quarter losing 9 employees. It was the only industry sector to decline.

ANNUAL

Annually, Colorado added 62,396 employees over second quarter a year ago for a gain of 3.5%. This gain is down from the growth levels of 1995 and 1994 but still reflective of a prosperous economy. Continued demand for computer and temporary work support caused Services to generate the lions share of employment with the addition of 27,576 workers. After a slow 1995, Construction appears to be rebounding, reporting the largest percentage of employment gain at 10.2%. In absolute numbers Construction is the second biggest contributor to Colorado's growth adding 10,307 employees. Mining continues to exhibit declining employment.
