QUARTERLY

On a quarterly basis Services seasonally rose adding 8502 employees for a gain of 1.5%. Business Services (73), the largest sector of the Services industry, added 7401 employees over the quarter with better than half of the gain due to increased hiring in temporary help firms. Health Services (80) experienced the second largest sector gain up 1791 employees. Increased hiring occurred in the home health care and rehabilitation arenas along with extra staffing in hospitals and doctors offices. Engineering Services (87) grew by 1281 employees over the quarter with the strongest growth registered in Engineering Services (8711). Some seasonal declines were reported in Accounting, Auditing & Bookkeeping (8721) following the end of the tax season and Facilities Support Management (8744). Sector loses were few occurring in Amusement & Recreation (79) down 2982, Personal Services (72) down 668 and Motion Pictures (78) down 19. Losses in Amusement & Recreation resulted from the end of the ski season. Tax return preparation which is classified in Personal Services seasonally declined creating the loss.


ANNUAL

Gains in Services continue to outperform all other industries. Services added 29,925 employees over a year ago, up 5.6%. The Business Services (73) sector generated more than half of the industry growth with the addition of 17,690 employees. Aggressive growth in temporary help and the contracting of computer services contributed significantly to the rise in Business Services. Health Services (80) reported the second largest sector gain up 5308 employees. Staff expansions in doctor=s offices, hospitals, nursing homes and home health care agencies accounted for most of the growth. Social Services (83) added 1579 employees over the year. Growth was impacted by expansions in services to the elderly as this sector contains helping hand and nonmedical homemaker services. Due to increased demand Engineering Services (87) grew by 1582 employees. Over the year only three sectors lost workers. Misc Services (89) dropped 144 and Misc Repair (76) 51, due to SIC changes in January. Membership Organizations (86) lost 57 when one company restructured employees as volunteers and election offices closed.
