QUARTERLY

FIRE grew 1.4% over last quarter adding 1507 employees. Real Estate (65) seasonally increased. Extra staffing by property management companies for pool, lawn and building maintenance contributed to the temporary addition of 828 employees. Credit Agencies (61) increased employment due to expansions in Mortgage Bankers & Brokers (616). Employment rose 327 in Credit Agencies and 476 in the Mortgage Bankers & Brokers subsector. Losses occurred in the subsector Business Credit Institutions (615) when a medium sized firm closed its doors mid-quarter. Growth in Title Insurance (636) and Accident & Health Insurance & Medical Service Plans (632) generated most of the 232 new workers in Insurance Carriers (63). Banking (60) down 190 employees was the only sector to decline. Decreases resulted from cutbacks in National Commercial Banks.

ANNUAL

Since a year ago FIRE added 1347 employees for a gain of 1.2%. Real Estate (65) expanded by 467 employees and Insurance Agents (64) 457. Both sectors showed yearlong growth. Security & Commodity (62) added 386 employees; Banking (60) added 305 and Insurance Carriers (63) 202. All increases are indicative of the health of personal income and the Colorado economy. Credit Agencies (61) dropped 373 employees over a year ago. Decreases were the result of layoffs and closures in Mortgage Bankers & Brokers (616) which began at the end of 1994 but revived in mid- second quarter 1995.
