QUARTERLY
Employment in TCPU reflected minor gains having added only 85 employees up 0.1% over last quarter. Activity within the sectors was mixed with large losses in Electric- Gas-Sanitation Services (49) offsetting gains elsewhere. Losses in Electric-Gas-Sanitation, down 822 employees, were confined to Sanitary Services (495) and due to layoffs. The largest employment increase occurred in Air Transportation Scheduled & Air Courier Services (451) up 491 employees. Expansions at the Colorado Springs airport and activity increases at Denver International Airport fueled this growth. Communication (48) added 221 employees. Subsector activity consisted of employee transfers from Telegraph & Other Message Communications (482) to Telephone Communications (481) and growth in Cable & Other Pay Television Services (484).
ANNUAL
Over the year TCPU employment expanded 8.1% adding 8414 employees. SIC changes in January into Electric-Gas- Sanitary Services (49) covering about 6000 employees is one of the major components of the industry’s growth. However, cutbacks occurring this quarter caused Electric-Gas-Sanitary Services to reflect an annual gain of only 3980 employees. Communication (48) added 3027 employees due to yearlong growth in Telephone Communications (481) and Cable & Other Pay Television Services (484). Growth in Trucking (421) added most of the 667 employees to Trucking- Warehousing (42). Expansions this quarter at the Colorado Springs airport and at Denver International Airport offset large losses sustained at the end of 1994 and beginning of 1995 in Air Transportation (45). Employment is down only 52 employees over a year ago.
