QUARTERLY

The Agriculture industry seasonally peaked at 31,981 employees up 4251 and 15.3% over last quarter. Agriculture Services (07) reported the largest quarterly expansion gaining 2310 employees. Within Agriculture Services seasonal demands for hired labor created an increase of 1413 in Farm Labor & Management Services (076). Landscape & Horticulture Services (078) which contains lawn and garden maintenance establishments rose 559 employees. Agri Prod-Crops (01) experienced the second largest sector increase adding 1836 employees over the quarter. Seasonal hiring for Vegetables & Melons (016) up 1602 employees generated most of the sector increase. Horticulture Specialties (018) incurred the only decrease, down 561 employees, following its peak demand for nursery products which typically occurs in second quarter.


ANNUAL

Employment in Agriculture grew 6.4% over a year ago adding 1930 employees to its ranks. Agri Prod-Crops (01) and Agriculture Services (07) added the same number of employees, each up 919 employees. Growth in Agri Prod-Crops was strongest in Vegetables & Melons (016) up 456 due to expansions in many of the larger firms along the Front Range. Horticulture Specialties (018) added 264 employees due to an expanding market for bedding plants, sod and nursery stock. About 80% of the employment growth in Agriculture Services occurred in Landscape & Horticulture Services (078) as demand continued for lawn and gardening services. This subsector added 688 employees. Growth in Veterinary Services (074) occurred over the year adding 332. Annually, Prod-Livestock (02) increased by 94 with the largest gain in General Farms, Primarily Livestock (029).
