Construction employment seasonally advanced adding 6916 employees over last quarter up 6.2%. Special Trades (17), the strongest component of the Construction industry, boasted a quarterly gain of 3934 employees. The subsector Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning (171) generated the largest share of employment growth up 1073. Gains were somewhat seasonal resulting from new projects. Electrical Work (173) reported the second largest subsector gain up 781 employees. General Building (15) added 1530 employees. Residential Building (152) reported the largest expansion up 836 employees while Nonresidential Building (154) added 617. Heavy Construction (16) grew by 1452 employees. Highway and Street Construction (161) added 576 employees. Heavy Construction Except Highway & Street Construction (162) added 876 with the bulk of its increase occurring in Water, Sewer, Pipeline & Communication & Power Line Construction (1623).

The Construction industry advanced 9.3% adding 10,042 employees over a year ago third quarter. In terms of percent of growth Construction reported the largest annual industry gain. Special Trade (17) increases accounted for a little over 75% of the Construction gain having added 7818 employees. Within Special Trades the largest increasing sectors were Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning (171) generating growth of 2030 employees, Masonry, Stonework, Tile Setting & Plastering (174) 1604 employees and Electrical Work (173) 1315. General Building (15) grew by 1939 employees. Its growth was centered in Residential Building (152) and due mainly to remodel and new construction of single family homes. Heavy Construction (16) added only 286 employees over last year. Increases were almost evenly distributed between the two subsectors with Highway & Street Construction gaining 157 and Heavy Construction Except Highway & Street Construction gaining 129.
