QUARTERLY

Services was the largest growing industry in Colorado over the quarter adding 11,721 employees, rising 2.2%. Business Services (73) was the largest growing component of the Services industry adding more than half of the employment, up 6762. Hiring occurred in temporary help agencies, guard services, computer programming and other computer services firms and telemarketing businesses. Summer tourism seasonally boosted employment in Hotels & Lodging up 3487. Motion Pictures (78) reported a large increase this quarter up 590 employees. Temporary projects in the film industry brought on large numbers of employees for a relatively short period of time. Engineering Services (87) added 573 employees. Seasonal losses in the accounting arena due to the end of the tax season were offset by expansions in engineering and management and business consulting services. Educational Services (82) and Social Services (83) each reported losses due to the closing of schools and day care centers for the summer. Educational Services lost 301 employees and Social Services 248.


ANNUAL

Annual growth in Services remained healthy at 5.2% over last year ago having added 27,025 employees. Business Services (73), the largest sector of the industry, grew by 15,185 employees. Increased demand for outsourcing many work functions along with demand for telemarketing and computer services has driven growth in this sector to record highs. Employment in Health Services (80) registered the second largest gain up 2456. Increases occurred in offices of M.D.'s and home health care services. Social Services (83) added 1790 employees. High demand for homemaker services and nonmedical residential care influenced the gain. Yearlong expansions in Engineering Services (87) added 1784. Growth was strongest in Engineering Services (871) and Management & Public Relations Services (874). Amusement & Recreation Services (79) gained 1397 employees. Commercial Sports (794) reported the largest share of increase. Over the year Misc Service (89) was the only sector to decline dropping 19 employees.
