QUARTERLY

Employment gains in the Construction industry were seasonal and consistent with third quarter gains in past years. Employment rose 6.3% over second quarter adding 7488 workers. Increases of 4653 employees in Special Trades (17) accounted for better than 60% of the industry’s quarterly gain. All subsectors of Special Trades grew with the largest gains occurring in Misc Special Trade Contractors (179) up 821 employees, Concrete Work (177) up 770, Electrical Work (173) up 729 and Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning (171) up 767. General Building (15) added 1483 employees over the quarter. Nonresidential building, up 745 employees, slightly out paced residential construction up 702. Heavy Construction (16) increased by 1352 employees. Metro Denver comprised about 46% of the employment but only 20% of the growth.


ANNUAL

Construction industry employment grew 7.2% over third quarter a year ago adding 8510 employees. Special Trades (17) growth composed the bulk of the industry increase adding 6216 employees. Within Special Trades, Plumbing, Heating & Air-Conditioning (171) incurred the largest gain adding 1340 employees followed by Masonry, Stonework, Tile Setting & Plastering (174) up 1151, Concrete Work (177) up 1084 and Misc Special Trades (179) up 1082. Employment in General Building (15) was up by 2084. Nonresidential building generated 1150 of the gain and residential 846. Increases in nonresidential building were slightly stronger in Metro Denver, up 628 employees, while growth in residential building was strongest in the Balance of State. Heavy Construction was up a mere 210 over the previous year.
