QUARTERLY Employment in the Services industry fell by 1630 employees dropping 0.2% from last quarter. Some declining sector activity was influenced by seasonal factors as the summer tourist season ended. Hotels & Lodging (70) seasonally declined by 4571 employees. Amusement & Recreation (79) fell by 2526 employees. Membership Organizations (86) lost 1017 employees. Closing of summer camps operated by membership groups such as scouts and by church groups caused the seasonal loss. On the positive side, employment in Business Services (73) grew by 1687. Within Business Services Computer Programming, Data Processing & Other Computer Related Services advanced by 2229 employees. The fickle temporary help industry lost 827 employees. Health Services (80) gained 1491 employees. Offices of Doctors of Medicine gained 671 employees. Some of the increase can be attributed to seasonal staffing in ski areas. Nursing & Personal Care Facilities added 429 employees. This large increase occurred as staff expansions mainly in establishments providing skilled nursing care. Educational Services (82) experienced increased staffing for this school year causing an employment increase of 877. ANNUAL Services employment growth continues to dominate Colorado statistics up 5.4% over a year ago adding 33,833 employees. More than half of the industry increase was related to high demand for Business Services (73), which boasted a gain of 17,107 employees. The strongest component of Business Services was Computer Programming, Data Processing & Other Computer Related Services up 13,917 employees. Increases were generated in part from the provision of computer programming services up 4633; computer related services such as data base development and computer consulting adding 3400; and design and development of prepackaged software adding 2683 employees. Health Services (80) was the second largest increasing sector up 4125 employees. Offices of Doctors of Medicine added 1658 employees and Hospitals added 1071. Service expansions and new contracts assisted employment growth in Engineering Services (87) to climb by 3490. Amusement & Recreation (79) added 2707 employees. Losses were minor with Membership Organizations (86) declining by 189 due mainly to the closure of a long-standing organization. Misc Repair Services (79) fell by 14 employees.
