Wholesale Trade rose 1.0% over last quarter adding 987 employees. Durable Goods (50) posted the largest gain of the two sectors, up 526 employees. Nondurable Goods (51) added 461 employees. Within Durable Goods, Electrical Goods (506) incurred the largest subsector gain up 190 employees. Increases appeared primarily in Electronic Parts & Equipment Not Elsewhere Classified (5065) covering only a few companies. Professional & Commercial Equipment & Supplies (504) added 183 employees with growth occurring mainly in Computers & Computer Peripheral Equipment & Software (5045) in a number of businesses.
Increases in Nondurable Goods occurred primarily in Groceries & Related Products (514) up 335 employees. Increases in Groceries & Related Products were seasonal and relegated to Fresh Fruits & Vegetables (5148). Activity here follows the end of the harvest season when distributors sort and package produce for the retail market.

Since fourth quarter a year ago Wholesale Trade grew 4.2% adding 3875 employees. About two thirds of the industry growth occurred in Durable Goods (50) up 2651 employees. All subsectors of Durable Goods expanded over the year, however, Electrical Goods (506), up 951, showed the strongest growth. Yearlong business expansions in Electronic Parts & Equipment Not Elsewhere Classified (5065) contributed the greatest share of new employees. Professional & Commercial Equipment & Supplies (504) experienced the second largest increase up 458 employees. Growth was a yearlong affair due exclusively to expansions in Computer & Computer Peripheral Equipment & Software (5045).
Nondurable Goods (51) added 1224 employees over a year ago. Groceries & Related Products (514) generated the largest subsector increase up 821 employees. Growth occurred in the last three quarters and was enhanced by SIC changes of about 300 in January.
