Agricultural employment experienced growth of 1875, an increase which is nearly the same as last year's, up 1835. Agriculture continues to be the second strongest growth industry in Colorado, and the only category within Agriculture to lose employment was Forestry, down 4 employees.
The increase in Crop Production of 442 was very similar to last year, up 482. Within Crop Production, employment in Horticultural Specialties or greenhouses rose 276. Crop production increased in many counties, but primarily in Adams, Jefferson, Morgan, Prowers and Weld counties.
Livestock Production as a sub category increased 172. The actual livestock portion of this group increased 129. Dairy production increased 60 offsetting losses in poultry and egg production of 68. Weld lost 33 employees in Livestock.
Agricultural Services had the largest increase, up 1,258. This represents around two thirds of the total increase, and is similar to the increase occurring last year. Landscaping services accounted for most of the increase here, up 982, while veterinary services increased 187, taking up most of the balance. Counties with increases in Agricultural Services include Arapahoe, Denver, El Paso and Jefferson.
