GOVERNMENT
Government had the second smallest growth rate up 1.0 percent behind Mining which experienced losses. State and Local Government increased 1163 and 2444 respectively, but Federal government decreased 825 for an overall increase of 2782.
Growth in Local Government was prominent in Arapahoe, Boulder, Douglas, El Paso and Jefferson counties. Local Government experienced losses in La Plata and Montezuma counties as Indian Tribes were reclassified to the private sector. Also, losses in Larimer county are partially due to a hospital district changing to the private sector.
State government increased 367 in the Metro Area and 796 in the Balance of State. Counties with large increases include Boulder, Delta, Fremont and Larimer.
Federal Government experienced decreases in Jefferson county at the Federal Center. Also in the Metro Area, Lowry Air Force Base completely closed in the fall of 1994 helping to drive employment in the Metro Area down by 1976. The Balance of State makes up this difference with increases totalling 1151. This is seen in El Paso and Fremont counties up 1105.
