Manufacturing expanded 3736 employees in 1994, outpacing last year's growth of 2803. This represents an expansion of 2.0 percent versus 1.5 percent. The Balance of State absorbed virtually all the increase. The Metro Denver area lost 116 employees.
Within Manufacturing, the subcategories of Non-Electrical Machinery, Electrical Machinery and Printing-Publishing experienced the largest increases up a total of 2915. Printing-Publishing experienced balanced growth within and outside of the Metro Denver area, while Non-Electrical and Electrical Machinery grew primarily in the Balance of State.
Lumber employment expanded in Denver and Larimer counties up a combined 297, helping to push the statewide total up by 606. Also, Rubber-Misc Plastic increased 94 in Boulder and 142 in Mesa county towards a 507 total statewide increase.
Three subsectors with noticeable losses are Transportation Equipment down 1006 and Chemicals down 522, and Instruments down 530. Food Products lost 413 in the Metro Denver area, but this was more than offset by increases in the Balance of State. The statewide increase in Food Products was 211 employees.
