Wholesale Trade in Colorado rose to 91,239 employees in 1994. This represents an increase of 4865 over the 1993 level. Durable goods showed stronger growth of 6.9 percent up 3634 than Nondurable goods up 3.7 percent or 1231. The Metro Denver area experienced larger growth in absolute numbers than the Balance of State, but the Balance of State had a stronger growth rate.

Of the 3634 increase in Durable employment, 833 was in Professional Equipment, 630 in Electrical Goods, 446 in Motor Vehicles and Supplies and 409 in Lumber and Construction Materials. No categories within Durable Wholesale Trade showed any significant decreases in employment.

The four strong areas within Nondurable Wholesale Trade include Paper and Paper Products, Apparel, Groceries and Miscellaneous Nondurable Goods for a combined increase of 1008.

By county, Durable employment increased by 1062 in Arapahoe, 660 in Denver and 421 in Boulder. Nondurable employment increased 231 in Boulder, 190 in Montrose and 169 in Adams. The nondurable increase in Montrose is mainly due to reclassifications from other industries.
