TCPU at 112,090 employees experienced one of its strongest years for employment gains. Employment increased 8.8% adding 9086. For the last two years employment grew about 4000 employees at a rate of about 4%. The difference this year was the acquisition of about 6000 employees from Manufacturing due to SIC reclassification in January.

Trucking-Warehousing expanded 1517 employees. Growth occurred in all counties comprising Metro Denver with Adams adding the largest portion up 406.

Air-Transportation suffered another year of losses dropping 942 employees. Denver county registered the most significant drop down 1450 employees. The closure of one airline and service cutbacks by another caused much of the loss. Expansions at the Colorado Springs airport added 449 employees to Air-Transportation in El Paso County.

Communications, the largest sector of TCPU, comprises 35% of the total. It was the second largest growing sector of TCPU and added 3559 employees since 1994. The majority of employment growth occurred in Metro Denver with only 13 employees added in the Balance of State. Boulder county suffered the largest loss dropping 650 employees due to suspected relocations to Arapahoe county. Telephone Communications added 2449 employees and Cable & Other Pay Television Services added 1422.

SIC changes into Electric-Gas-Sanitary Services pushed employment up 3559. Sanitary Services which acquired 6000 employees in January from SIC changes, had cutbacks leaving the sector with a gain of only 5344 employees. Combination Utilities experienced layoffs in the beginning of the year leaving the sector with a decline of 1083 employees, offsetting gains.
