| Employment | Growth in covered employment in Colorado continued in 1996. The increase in jobs was less than it had been in the previous three years but greater than any of the years between 1988 and 1992. Just over half of the increase occurred in the five county Denver MSA. This is the first time in the past ten years that the majority of additional jobs were in the Denver MSA. |
| Wages | Total wages increased by 8.6% from 1995 to 1996 after increasing 8.1% the previous year. The 1996 percentage increase was the largest in the last 10 years. Population growth slowed for the third consecutive year, recording a 2% gain, according to US Census estimates. The Denver-Boulder CPI increased by 3.5% from the previous year. |
